Little cute creatures in the garden

I have my garden box, and then here on my little porch I have a few potted vegetable plants.  I was tending the planter that is overcrowded with lettuce and a bunch of other stuff.  All the sudden, a handful of little creatures jumped out, several out into the yard and two into my hair. (You best believe I did the bug dance)

I figured it was grasshoppers or something because of how they jumped.  Why were there so many?

Then I looked closer and saw that three were left on the porch.  Little toads! They weren't any bigger than my thumbnail.

Not sure why there were so many hanging out in there.  It is a good hiding place.  It gets watered regularly, has cool vegetation shade, and isn't as frequented with predators as the grass.

One of the little toads found a hiding spot in the water draining area of a pepper plant pot that I was about to water.  I slowly watered it thinking it would probably enjoy a cool soak.  I know, kind of ridiculous but this toad was in toad heaven.  Look at his little arms (toads totally have arms) hanging on to the edge!
