Making a man's tie into a boy's tie

As Dave approaches his 4th birthday, I thought it would be an appropriate time to amp up the Sunday Best wear and start regularly wearing a white shirt and tie to church.

He has a couple long sleeved white dress shirts, but it's been 100+ almost every day this month.  I hemmed the sleeves of the smaller shirt, and then solicited old ties from my dad.  Dave has one tie, that's about the appropriate length for a 2 year old, and has a Christmas pattern on it.  He totally wore it to church last week.

My dad graciously donated a few old ties to the cause.

I started hacking the tie up, trying to decide how long it should be and how exactly I should put it back together.  I got some idea help from HideousDreadfulStinky and made some modifications so it could have a matching neck-piece that would velcro shut.

What I love the most about this project is that this is a tie I remember my dad wearing all the time when I was a little girl.  Now whenever Dave wears it, I'll think of daddy.

Thanks poppy for your donations!!
