Bear

Dave has this big plump brown bear.  It was the first bear he ever received.  He was two and a half days old.  I had only held him once, for about 1 full minute before he was whisked away to the Children's hospital.  I was recovering from my c-section and still a hospital patient when my son had his surgery, too.  I talked the drs and nurses into letting me go see him in the hospital about 30 minutes away.

We got to the hospital and had to wait a while before we could go up --he was being taken for some tests.  I was in quite a bit of pain.  C-section recovery for me was pretty horrific, and with complications.  I really just needed a pillow to rest under my legs.  Bart ran to the gift shop and found a big plump brown teddy bear...to prop my legs on...and to eventually be Dave's when he got home.  (You can't take stuffed animals into the nicu).

So this bear is special, and symbolizes the miracle of both of us making it through those first couple months...and how daddy (Bart) was the one that helped keep us together.  Dave loves him.  His name is Bear, appropriately ;)
